WTF is up with scary stories and the name Mary? If you are one that is scared easily I suggest leaving the page and checking out our section for animal lovers, otherwise read on for a spooky tale about a woman known as Midnight Mary.In the Evergreen Cemetery cemetery located in downtown New Haven Connecticut there is a tombstone not like the others with a scary vibe. The final resting place of Mary E. Hart has a tombstone that states the following;

AT HIGH NOON

JUST FROM, AND ABOUT TO RENEW HER DAILY WORK, IN HER FULL STRENGTH OF BODY AND MIND

MARY E. HART

HAVING FALLEN PROSTRATE

REMAINED UNCONSCIOUS, UNTIL SHE DIED AT MIDNIGHT, OCTOBER 15, 1872

BORN DECEMBER 16, 1824

Above this, it reads;

THE PEOPLE SHALL BE TROUBLED AT MIDNIGHT AND PASS AWAY

So what does this mean and who is Mary E. Hart? Well, noone is quite sure, but there are a few beliefs surrounding this mysterious gravesite. Many believe of course that Mary was a witch, and this is a spell left upon those who prosecuted her during her life. There are stories that state that there have people in the past test their fate by visiting the site at night and are found dead in the graveyard the next morning. One story that has been handed down amongst locals for decades is one that is most disturbing.

This story states that Mary was buried alive. After her prompt burial, her relative had a dream about her trying to escape a place that was pitch black and had her grave dug up immediately the next morning to find “The lining of the casket was torn to shreds, and Mary’s nails were bloody and ripped away from her fingertips.” So did she get buried alive? Was she a witch? Does she haunt the grounds of the cemetery or even the town? It is hard to say or prove but what I do know is that this is a bit freaky.
