We have all been a little shocked from time to time when we open up our browser and log in to our bank accounts to check out balances. Sometimes this shock is a good thing, and you have spent less money than you thought, but more times than not it is the other way around if you are anything like me. I almost always forget about a purchase and will realize I actually have less money than I thought. Well, I have to say despite all the disappointment I have endured I have never been as shocked as the woman in this story was when she checked the balance of her recently deceased mother’s bank account.
Sheila Henderson, a resident of Chicago IL, recently called to check the balance in her mother’s bank account to see what she had to work with to wrap up final expense costs associated with funerals and other arrangements when she was shocked to see an 8 figure negative balance. When she first heard the balance, she was very shocked and had to have her brother call again to confirm that she had in fact just heard what she thought she did. Her brother confirmed that she had in fact heard that the balance was negative $99,999,545.
Luckily the bank has been alerted and has confirmed that it was, in fact, an error and no one owes back this money. The shocking truth is that this only leads us to believe that there are other errors, maybe not as large, that result in money being taken from peoples accounts unwillingly. Perhaps this is how the rich stay rich, by taking a few pennies here and there from all of us less privileged individuals.
