Many parents believe that a good old-fashioned Disney movie is a great choice for their children. If you take a closer look at some of the classics though you can see that Disney movies, especially the ones that include princesses, have encouraged things such as murder, jealousy, exploitation, mutilation, violence, nudity and even arousal. Let’s take a look at a few examples of what I am referencing. Let’s start with mutilation.
We all know the classic tale of Cinderella. But many people do not know though is that in the original story Cinderella stepsisters cut off their toes as well as their heels to fit into the glass slipper. Those details were left out though as they are not so kid-friendly. Murder has been a part of many different Disney Princess movies, but they always seem to make it kid-friendly.
Many individuals do not realize that in the original Snow White at the wedding reception the Queen is given evil burning shoes and dances in them until she drops dead. I also find it a little bit creepy that a young single woman was living with eight tiny guys in a house in the middle of the woods, but that’s a whole other topic.
Another more recent Disney princess movie is based off of Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Frozen, which is the popular Disney movie, was based off of the original story is known as The Snow Queen. In the original Snow Queen story, the Snow Queen kidnaps a little boy and refuses to let him go Furthermore she also kisses him to try to make him forget about his family and friends. That’s just a little creepy no matter who you ask.
You can find examples of how Disney Princess movies have encouraged blended families, jealousy, revenge and exploitation if you simply look at stories such as Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. You can find something twisted in just about every Disney movie if you just take a closer look and take a different viewpoint and do not look at it as just another kids movie.
