Global warming is happening whether people want to recognize it and acknowledge it or not. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change if global warming continues at the current rate the melting of glaciers will raise sea levels by 7 – 23 inches. This would result in many islands completely disappearing from the face of Earth. Many individuals do not realize the extent of what global warming is doing to our planet.
People have been warning us about how fossil fuels could cause global warming and have disastrous effects on our planet since back in 1896 when Swedish Scientist Svante Arrhenius first stated that “burning fossil fuels could eventually result in global warming.” It is predicted that if global warming continues at the current rate that it is going by the year 2100, the ocean and sea levels will rise by over three feet which will result in over a hundred million people being displaced that currently live and will live in coastal regions at this time.
One of the most obvious signs of global warming is the documented rise in temperature over the course of the past 12 decades. Since 1880, the global temperature has risen by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit every year. These are just a few of the shocking truth surrounding what we are doing to our planet. If we do not change our ways, we may be some of the last people to ever live on the face of planet Earth. Think about this and everything that you do. From the water you consume to the garbage that you put into landfills, you are contributing to the disasters that are plaguing our planet.
