The Charles Manson murders are probably one of the most horrific and well-known serial killings in history. In 1969, Charles Manson along with Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van Houten and others participated in a series of murders. In total these individuals took the lives of 7 individuals over a few weeks time. Charles is serving nine consecutive life sentences in a California penitentiary.
Leslie Van Houten has been serving time in the California Institution for Women in Chino since their arrests and convictions in the early 70s. This now 66-year-old woman may be getting a second chance at what is left of her life. Leslie has been recommended for parole and will be released if the Governor of the state Gov. Jerry Brown signs off for her release when the paperwork hits his desk.
Meanwhile…. there are hundreds of thousands of individuals spending their lives behind bars for possessing and cultivating a plant that can save lives, not take them. The shocking truth is we would prefer to let murderers back on the street while continuing to incarcerate and ruin the lives of thousands every day over cannabis. If released, Leslie very well may be the only one of the Manson Family members to ever be released from prison.
